Preserve backslashes in arguments passed to macros by re-escaping
them before substituting in the macro body, where they will be
parsed again.

CMake writes ConfigureCommand and MakeCommand entries into
DartConfiguration.tcl when configuring a project that uses the CTest module.
These values prevented users from being able to use configure/build presets
in dashboard client mode from a pre-configured build directory.
This commit updates ctest_configure() and ctest_build() to ignore
CTEST_CONFIGURE_COMMAND / CTEST_BUILD_COMMAND when a preset is specified.
This allows the requested preset to be honored.
When a built-in cache variable is set via `-D <var>=<value>` with no
help text supplied, populate `HELPSTRING` from the built-in
documentation table (sourced from `Help/variable/*.rst` and the
per-language pattern manuals). Project-defined and unknown variables
continue to receive the legacy "No help, variable specified on the
command line." sentinel.
The cache entry's type and value are left untouched: type stays
`UNINITIALIZED` for bare `-D` and an explicit `-D <var>:TYPE=<value>`
is honored as before. The `cmCacheManager::LoadCache` path is not
modified, so reload of existing caches is a fixed point.

Add `test_prep/<test_name>` convenience targets to the ninja generator
to build dependencies of tests, and `test_prep/all` to build the dependencies
of all tests.
Build dependencies of a test include:
- Executables directly invoked by test `COMMAND`.
- Targets mentioned in generator expressionf os test `COMMAND`.
- Anything explicitly listed with the new `BUILD_DEPENDS` argument of `add_test`.

Swift supports CodeView/PDB for Windows (with active development ongoing
to make it the default). It is currently usable but does not have the
same fidelity as DWARF, but can be sufficient for many use cases. The
user is able to control this via flags. Wire up the necessary support to
allow `TARGET_PDB_FILE` to be used with Swift/Swift-only targets.
Add `SamePatchVersion`, `SameFullVersion`, and `SemanticVersion`
support.
Document `ExactVersion` as deprecated in favor of the clearer
`SamePatchVersion`/`SameFullVersion` names.

this C compiler, 2026-04-03) because the implementation was not usable
in general. It is now.

Previously, if a single source file was added to multiple file sets via
multiple `target_sources` calls, only the first call originally adding
it to the target was stored in the backtrace graph and referenced by
index in the singular "backtrace" field.
Add a "backtraces" field expanding this to cover all command
invocations which associate the given source file with that target.
Preserve the original "backtrace" field for compatibility. Update
spellings in the test suite to check against both fields.

The `fileSetIndex` field of target sources replies is incomplete, as a
single source file can be added to arbitrarily many file sets. Add a
`fileSetIndexes` field to report all file sets to which a source
belongs, and preserve `fileSetIndex` for compatibility as the index of
the most recent addition.
Tweak the test suite to use the plural spelling only in expected JSON
snippets and verify that the singular `fileSetIndex` is always the last
element of the new list. (Note that remaining occurrences of the
singular spelling correspond to "installers" objects, which is entirely
different.)

Allow users to provide a custom comparison function for `list(SORT)`.
The comparator is validated for strict weak ordering at runtime to
produce a clear CMake error rather than a platform-dependent abort.
